Being a person in today’s world is tough enough; when you add in wanting to have little people-in-training, everything just becomes much more difficult. Expanding your family can come with so much stress, disappointment, frustration, anger, and sadness. If you are dealing with fertility difficulties, trauma, being a BIPOC (and having to be thankful for it!) on top of these challenges, life is all the more difficult. Having a place where you can be honest not only with yourself–but also share those “taboo” thoughts–can make a world of difference.

I’m Paulina (she/her/ella), a 1.5 generation immigrant, born in Sinaloa, Mexico. I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, supervised by Sheila Kubota, LCSW. My academic focus on Latinx Family Systems and Trauma has evolved into a specialization in perinatal mental health, parenting, and immigration. I enjoy working with parents because, as one myself, I understand the importance and complexities of the role. Sometimes being a parent is rewarding, and other times it is overwhelming, tiring, and hard.

My hope is to provide you a space for you to be you, however that space looks, that feels safe. I work from a collaborative framework because the reality is that YOU are the expert of you. I am here to provide a different perspective, a listening ear, and validation. I will add some sarcasm and dark humor because, let’s be real, this journey is difficult enough without being able to laugh about it. Overall, I promise to show up as my authentic self and join you in this journey to the best of my abilities.

When I’m not in therapist mode I am me, a wife, and a mom. My husband and I love watching all different genres of TV. I love laughing with him and embracing our sarcastic sense of humor.  Our family includes an angel baby and four wonderful, loud, crazy kiddos, and I often joke that we deliberately chose a chaotic life over a calm one; in reality they make life so awesome. We also have four furry companions, adding to the madness. I’ve recently discovered a passion for building LEGO sets and am a devoted Harry Potter fan (with a tattoo to prove it!). I navigate adulthood as a former millennial emo kid, continually exploring my identity as a Chicana/Mexican-American.
