Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Parenthood, beginning with the efforts to conceive, is a life-altering transition that reveals itself to you in layers as you make your way into the new version of yourself and your family. This new identity can be fraught with self-judgements and wonderings. It can make you question your body, your abilities, and your choices. It can lead to conflict and hurt between partners. And it can bring upon painful grief. It is so brave to ask for help.
Welcome! I’m glad you are here. My name is Kalyn and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I hold a BA in Communication, and an MA in Counseling Psychology, both from the University of San Francisco. I have been practicing for eight years, and have worked with new and expecting parents, mothers and infants, and children of all ages with emotional disturbance. I wholeheartedly believe that the relationship between client and therapist is the most healing aspect of the work. I will strive to meet you where you are, free from judgment and with empathy in an effort to lovingly encourage you forward to the place you wish to be. I am warm, gentle and compassionate.
I have received specialized training through Postpartum Support International, and am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C). I have also been trained in Infant-Parent Psychotherapy helping to nurture bonds, interpret baby’s communication and cues, and disrupt painful intergenerational patterns of parenting. I utilize an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities to inform how I work with clients, and ultimately see each client as the expert of their life. I believe that where we have come from affects where we are today, and that societal narratives and expectations impact our well-being, especially during the reproductive years. I have become deeply passionate about the perinatal population through my own struggles with postpartum anxiety, as well as my experiences with pregnancy loss. This time in a family’s life is so precious and vulnerable and yet significantly under-resourced. It would be an honor to provide support to you!
When not practicing, I find joy being with my loved ones, most importantly my daughter and my husband. I love being in nature, eating a delicious meal, being in or near water, spending time with animals, and reading great books. I look forward to meeting you.
